To Do: De-DRM Your E-book Library

Context: a post I found on the Bubbles "small web" aggregator - I own my books with which I wholeheartedly agree.

I did not want to muck around with this, but I went through the pain of de-DRMing my e-book library a while ago because I really hated using the Kindle app. It was a constant reminder that many tech companies aren't incentivized to make and maintain truly useful products and services (thanks to the term I'm not fond of, and yet is accurate in describing tons of products today: enshittification), and I hated continuing to use such a terrible product. Now I buy from Kobo (Google Play Books uses the same DRM, but I've found their store experience and library lacking.) since it is simple to de-DRM their books (if needed; a few authors I read offer their books without DRM, thankfully). I'd like to do the same with my video library, but that's much harder to do, and I am not up for wrestling with all of that now (or maybe ever).

KOReader, despite its non-simple UI and settings, is far superior, and I haven't even customized it as much as others have. While I want to write more about KOReader later, I will say that the simple ability to change fonts to suit the books I'm reading is a feature that delights me. 🤩 Google Fonts is a great resource for this. There are so many fun fonts out there to match to different book genres! More about this and other features of KOReader later.

If you can, de-DRM your e-book library. May I suggest you browse the Mobileread forums for no particular reason...? Your future self will thank you.
