"Slackvent" Days 6-13

I saw someone on the Pen Addict Slack group call the Inkvent exchange, "Slackvent", henceforth it shall be known as such! 😀

For all the details about the ink swap, see my previous post to get caught up.

...

Now that you're caught up, here are days 6 through 13:

DeAtramentis Document Green Gray matches its name well. It reminds me of Jacques Herbin Vert de Gris, another nice dusky green I like.

I found out that Robert Oster Izzy Monster is an Atlas Stationers exclusive ink. It's a nice saturated violet with bronze shimmer similar to Rainbows End from last year's Diamine Inkvent.

If I could get Colorverse Lucky Star into a pen that would make it appear lighter (a dry stub nib?), it may help distinguish the base color from black more. I tend not to like inks that are so dark they're basically black. It's a shame it's not lighter, as it looks like a cool (temperature) blurple similar to the base color of Journalize's Dark Matter, which I want to find in a non-shimmer version.

The scan of Colorverse's Golden Gate Bridge appears a bit more pink/magenta than I think it is in real life, but my indoor lightning isn't perfect. It seems that the addition of a dark pink or magenta component makes certain red inks more appealing to me, which is strange, since I don't generally like pink or magenta. But when I was swatching Golden Gate Bridge, I was somewhat regretting not getting a bottle of it from the SF Pen Show. However, in reality I don't use red inks that often, so it's probably fine to enjoy the sample while it lasts.

I was surprised by Iroshizuku Kiri-Same because I'd written it off, since I already like Iroshizuku Fuyu-Syogun and didn't think I'd like the warmth of Kiri-Same in comparison. But the brown and blue chromoshading in the swatch is nudging that part of me who likes odd, harder to categorize ink colors, even though it's fairly easy to call Kiri-Same a gray. Hmph. Do I need to track down Kiri-Same for my ink library??

Third House Inks is a completely new brand to me. I found out it's sold on Abigail Markov's site, though I'm not sure if it's created by Markov. When I swatched this, it felt viscous which immediately made me think it's a pigment ink (?). The color falls into that "swampy" ink genre that I've been liking recently, so I'm curious what it'll look like from a fountain pen. I also didn't realize it has some (light green?) shimmer in it. I saw glints of it when I was scrutinizing the swatch after it dried. Quirky.

My gut reaction to Manschurian Violet was, "Oh, another purple," and was about to feel a tad ho-hum about it. However, I realized that all of the purple inks I have are darker and more saturated, except for one or two chromoshaders, and they're not fully violet as this ink is, of course. The translucency of this ink immediately appealed to me, as I'm into shading inks at the moment. I'll definitely want to put this in a pen with good ink flow, likely one of my Jinhao 9019s with the medium nibs. It's a springy color, so I might wait until later to ink a pen with it.

Pelikan Edelstein Jade is not what I think of when I think of a jade green, which is a more pastel, cloudy light green. But it is a bright, cheerful "peacock teal" – not quite as blue as a peacock blue, or as bright, true green as I think of when I think of "peacock green". At the moment I'm not into teals, but this is a good one for whenever I am. One of my first inks was Sailor Shikiori Yamadori, so I'll probably come back around eventually.

We're a little over halfway through the Slackvent inks, and I find that I'm really enjoying the total surprises I'm getting from opening and swatching these inks. With the Diamine Inkvent, while they do have a variety in the set, you can sometimes see similarities to other Diamine inks, either from previous Inkvents or from their other collections, so it's less likely to be some ink that comes from way out of left field (watch, I've "jinxed it" now 😆), whereas the inks in Slackvent could be anything and have any formulation. It's a great complementary exercise to the parallel Inkvent. Can't wait to see what the last half will be like!

Do y'all have any favorites from this first batch so far? Any general ink recommendations for me? Despite my ink library size, and the clear fact that I will never finish all of my ink and ink samples in my lifetime (which is why I'm generous with sending people samples), I always want MOAR INK. 😅😅😅
