pictures of the day: mar 20

Today's pictures are of my breakfast-for-dinner dinner at The Original Pancake House in Los Altos, CA. I really like the true depth of field that I get from the GXR's 50mm lens module. And I've seen the grain/noise from its higher ISOs that I don't even care if it defaults to ISO higher than 1600. Even though I increased the exposure in post on JPEGs, I don't see any really detrimental artifacting. The lighting and white balance still isn't that great in these pictures, but it's decent given the poor lighting in the restaurant.

Every once in a while I like to have breakfast for dinner, and I stumbled across this restaurant. The description of their offerings reminded me of a breakfast place that I remembered from my time in Chicago area (which my husband later reminded me was Walker Brothers, which is actually a franchisee of The Original Pancake House, as I just learned), so I was keen to try it out. We were a bit shocked to see how empty the place was, considering how busy other diner-y places we've tried in the past have been. It was also quite hot, since there was no AC, and we're in the middle of a strange heat wave. 🥵

I didn't end up getting one of the signature items – the apple pancake or the Dutch baby – since I usually like having waffles. But maybe that was a mistake? The food was serviceable, but disappointing. My husband saw that the place is really busy around breakfast/brunch hours, but not busy in the evening, so perhaps the food quality isn't the best in the evening, either? I dunno. Our server was pretty attentive. I don't blame them for our experience. Sadly, we probably won't return, since I know of other breakfast places that are better in general. If you have any diners in the SF Bay Area (preferably not in San Francisco, as we don't get out there that often), please send them my way. Thanks!
