Picture(s) a Day: Jul 30

I'm still learning the quirks of the Sun & Cloud camera I got yesterday. One of them is that the way the pictures look on the little display on the back of the camera is not exactly the way they'll look when transferred to a computer. I kind of prefer how the pictures look on the camera's screen compared to how they turned out on the computer, even though technically the versions on the computer are better exposed, at least when I was taking pictures in Super Mono mode.

Here's what I saw when I took a close-up of a geometric pattern on our cabinet:

Monochrome, high-contrast picture of 3D hexagonal shapes, tesselated

Here's what it looked like on the computer:

The effect is more subtle than I first thought, but essentially the picture on the top has the bluer cast, more blown-out highlights, and fewer details of the wood grain in the lighter sides of the hexagons.

The display on the back of the camera seems to be much brighter, so it shows details that I don't see in the actual capture files (at least not without editing). Some of the underexposed shots on the camera look almost completely black when I transfer them over to the computer. So I'll have to contend with that difference. In some cases, I could edit the images to more closely look like the "camera's version" if I want to. For the pictures from this camera, I want them to emphasize the wacky metering and colors. Otherwise, what's the point? 😆
