Picture(s) a Day: Dec 8
We decided to pick our Christmas tree today from the tree farm we have been going to for the past several years. We were considering delaying another weekend, to try to allow the tree to more easily survive to Christmas Eve and Day, but we thought of a compromise/experiment to try: Get the tree today, but leave it outside in a tree stand with water outside in the yard for the week, and bring it in next weekend.
Since we moved into this house, we've had trouble getting our trees to make it to the holidays since we'd usually get one the day after Thanksgiving. We figured out that before we got our HVAC fixed, there was extreme heat being blown and concentrated in the corner of the room that our tree was based. We also realized that our older Christmas tree lights were giving off a ton of heat, drying out the tree more. But even after that HVAC issue was fixed, and Christmas lights were switched to incandescent-mimicking LED lights, our trees still would barely make it to Christmas Eve. Last year was the best outcome, but the tree was still fairly dry by the time Christmas Day rolled around. We just keep the house warmer than the tree wants it to be. So this time, we're hypothesizing that keeping the tree outside this week will be kind of like us waiting to pick out the tree next weekend, and hopefully means that the tree won't be crispy on December 25th. 😛
We walked around the tree farm a bunch, maybe like 30-40 mins, trying to find one we liked, but we ended up with a tree that was growing right by the edge of the parking lot, across the aisle from where we parked! 😆 🤦♀️ It's a good tree, and tall; it's just ridiculous that we looked around for so long and found "The Tree" basically where we started from. :smh:
Here are some other shots of the area, taken after we got the tree:
It wasn't exactly as dark as these pictures look, but we were getting close to dusk by the time Hubby got the tree strapped to the roof and were about to go pay for the tree. We may have been the next-to-last people to pay for our tree before they closed down for the day...whoops!
