Went to the Legion of Honor museum in San Francisco tonight for an after hours viewing of this year's Bouquets to Art show. I was rather disappointed in it compared to last year. Looking back at my photos for last year, the arrangements seemed larger, more sculptural, and it felt like there were a lot more bouquets among the exhibits. There were also a couple of really stand out works of art and bouquet pairings last year that seemed totally absent this time. This year, there were even one or two galleries that had no bouquets at all.

One gallery was filled with paintings of flowers and other foliage, none of which had any accompanying bouquets (low-hanging fruit!), and one Picasso painting that had no foliage in it, and it was the one chosen for a bouquet. On the one hand, it was kind of a clever presentation, but given the lack of bouquets throughout the rest of the museum, it felt like this gallery was set up to troll us. 😝

I brought both my Ricoh GXR to shoot as my primary camera, and Fuji x100t, in case I needed a wider view for some of the bouquets, but in hindsight, I shouldn't have bothered. I took a few snapshots near the end of our visit with my iPhone for some bouquets that needed a wider view. 🤷‍♀️

I was eager to show off the Legion of Honor to my husband since he wasn't able to go when I went last year, but it was a let down tonight. Overall, we feel like ever since the first year we attended the show at the de Young, the quality and variety of the floral arrangements have declined. Last year's show at the Legion of Honor was surprisingly better than the last previous years at the de Young, so I thought maybe I'd found a way to regain our interest, but sadly, the downward trend continued. I joked that maybe the arrangements at the de Young this year were better than those at the Legion of Honor, as if they trade off. 😆 I am tempted to go to the de Young to see how this year's bouquets compare, but getting into the city, even on a weekday afternoon is kind of a PITA, so I might miss out. I'll see how I feel. 😕
