Close-up photo of a scrub jay, a bird with a blue crown and wings, and white chest and belly, standing on concrete

In the spring/summer we sometimes have scrub jays visit our yard. For a while we fed them peanuts, but had to stop doing so when they buried too many peanuts in the yard, attracting pests. 😕 It was cute before then, though, because they would come by, perch on the pergola or some other yard furniture and squawk for us to come out and feed them. After a while we set a whole bowl of whole peanuts in the shell for them and they would actually sort through them to pick “the best” one. They were polite and put the “lesser” peanuts back in the bowl. 😆
