Picture a Day: Dec 16

Tinted monochrome picture of unknown dried plants covered in snow
Unknown location and dried plants, 2008, taken with a Nokia E90 phone

Living in Northern California, I've gotten used to not having snow at Christmas, though it doesn't mean I don't still long for it. In the past we've gone to Lake Tahoe and Yosemite in December to get a taste of snow for the holidays, but we haven't done that in a while now. Taking a quick look through the archives, I came across this image and decided it was a timely subject. I really don't recall where we were when I took this, but I do remember the phone, because I super regret selling it.

I actually won the phone in a contest, submitting a picture taken in downtown Chicago (someone doing some kind of flip move in front of the LED screen fountains at Millennium Park). It was such a cool phone with a chunky candybar form factor that unfolded to reveal a full keyboard and a weird, short landscape inner screen on which one could browse the web or run Series 60 (?) apps, such as they were back then. OMG, I wish I still had the phone in my collection! #TechNostalgia

Soooooo cooooool and gadgety
