Pelikan Hub "Haul" - Pelikan Edelstein Golden Lapis, Wearingeul Mason's Song, and KWZ Smells Like Coffee
For Ink Swatch Wednesday, I thought I'd go through 3 inks I got at my first Pelikan Hub meetup on Sept. 27th.
Golden Lapis isn't really new at this point, and many people who attended a Hub meetup this year posted their swatches of the ink, but I'm doing so for completion's sake.
It's a bright medium blue with strong gold shimmer and some red sheen.
And because they gave us a small pad of paper along with the ink, I decided to use it for swatches also:
There is no indication on the pad's cover what kind of paper this is, but its performance reminds me of Rhodia. This paper is much thicker than the pad of Rhodia I have, though.
Golden Lapis is a nice ink, but since I already have a bottle of Van Dieman's Azure Kingfisher, I kind of like it more because it has more of the red sheen to make it look a bit more interesting.
Before I left, I was also able to pick out a couple ink samples from a big batch that Kristen Campbell brought (of Kristen | Life Inspires Design fame on YT): another couple browns (😅) – Wearingeul Mason's Song, and KWZ Smells Like Coffee. I was excited to pick these up as I was specifically interested in both inks from seeing them online, so yay, free samples! Thanks, Kristen!
I guess Mason's Song is an odd brown with some pink tones mixed in. It reminds me a lot of an ink I already have, Birmingham Pen Company Ploughman's Pebble:
Another similar ink, but perhaps less saturated is Sailor Yurameku Kitsune Biyori.
As for KWZ Smells Like Coffee, which does have a nice, slightly chemically scent of a sweet cafe au lait or cappuccino, a couple other similar coffee-themed inks come to mind – Dominant Industry Lungo and Robert Oster Caffe Crema.
Caffe Crema is lighter, more yellow and has greenish undertones, but still in a similar family. Lungo's visibly cooler.
I also have these inks swatched on the Pelikan paper:
I'll write more about my Pelikan Hub experience a little later. But I will say I was happy I went, met a bunch of people, and got to see and try out a bunch of different pens (not just Pelikans). I really should go to pen meetups more often, but that dang introversion is a constant inertia to overcome. 😝
