Inkvent Exchange: Days 1 - 5

I mentioned in my Diamine Inkvent post yesterday that I have 2 Inkvents going, with the other one being an "unofficial" one (I mean, would we consider Diamine's official, especially now that Colorverse is in the mix?) with another member of The Pen Addict's Slack group. It's fun because the ink samples you get can be from a variety of ink brands, so it's even more exciting to anticipate what inks you'll unwrap. I have 24 ink samples to unwrap for this exchange, so I decided to do that in parallel with the Diamine Inkvent. As such, I'm doing the same individual ink library swatches that will live in a binder, and a "one-pager" of all the inks swatched together for easy reference and admiring.

Here are days 1 through 5's swatches:

And here's the one-page spread:

A hand-drawn layout of 25 rectangles in a 5 x 5 arrangement, with the top row of 5 rectangles filled in with various inks. The swatches are numbered outside the top left corner of the rectangle, and the ink name label is underneath the box.
One-page of ink swatches that will be a great reference to look at when all filled in

Initial Thoughts

This is so far a pretty varied bunch, and I like it! Of course, I'm happy to have a brown ink in there. Although I haven't looked through my brown inks for comparisons yet, it reminds me of Herbin Lie de Thé, but don't quote me on it! It's just what came to mind first.

I'm not a pink person, but as far as pinks go, the amount of red and the darker shade of the Diamine and Sugar Turtle collaboration ink makes it more palatable to my preferences. 😅

I like the plummy violet (?) shade of Papier Plume Secondline. I'll have to look up this ink name, as I'm guessing it has to do with something in New Orleans, but I'm not aware of the meaning of "Secondline" yet.

The gray Sailor Ink Studio color is intriguing with its very subtle chromoshading. I think this is going in a pen soon.

I have tried a few other Journalize shimmer inks and they look really nice! But they're also jam-packed with shimmer that I've had some pens clog. However, I am not sure if I've used the Journalize inks in my "shimmer champion" pens – the Jinhao 9019 with medium nibs – yet. I really liked Elphaba. This Starwave Meadow looks nice and "spring-y", as in the season. I may wait until April or May to use this in a pen, as right now I'm very into darker, standard inks for winter.

Thank you so much to my Inkvent exchange partner, especially since she went above and beyond, sending me more than the baseline number of ink samples (12). 😮 It was a pleasant surprise, even though I felt bad I only sent 12. With all the inks from both of these Inkvents, I'm feeling a little bit of analysis paralysis, figuring out what inks I should put in pens! 😅 I'll try not to go overboard, as I already have many pens inked up, but I can't guarantee anything, heh.

What are your thoughts on inks 1 through 5? Any similar inks to these you think I should check out? The drive to try out more and more inks continues...
