Inkvent 2025 - Day 3

So far Colorvent and Slackvent are leading Diamine in the number of inks I'm most interested in and want to put in a pen. But Diamine can always surprise, so I'm not counting them out. Plus, it's only day 3. 😅

Colorvent

From this batch, I think you all can guess that Colorvent's Erebus Crater is my favorite. Look at that chromoshading! Very pretty "odd" ink. Erebus Crater is a crater on Mars that the Opportunity Rover explored and took pictures of.

Looking at one of the pictures of the crater, I can see why the ink has the grays, greens, browns, pinks, and oranges it has in the multishading.

Diamine Carousel is the first pigment ink in the set that I've encountered. I'd read some warnings from people that the pigment ink was hard to clean off and some had trouble getting things like glass nibs completely cleaned, or their gold-plated steel nibs had the gold plating come off... 😬 Since I didn't want to potentially mess up my recent Kakimori glass nib purchase, I switched to my metal folded nib and a Kaigelu long blade steel nib that's in a nib holder (my previously used swatching tools). That's why the ink swatch label looks different from the others labeled using the glass nib.

The ink felt very smooth going onto the page, which kind of surprised me, because the few pigment inks I used before have felt kind of gritty and/or dry. Luckily cleaning off my swatch tools was no problem, but I cleaned them right after swatching and writing, so the ink really had no time to dry and potentially cling harder to the nibs.

I'm not a fan of fountain pen inks that have no shading or other attributes that distinguish them from a plain ol' marker, so Carousel is not for me. Also it's a shade of red that doesn't interest me, so double whammy. Sorry, Diamine!

Slackvent

Finally, day 3's ink is Wearingeul Anne of Green Gables. Surprisingly I never read that series of books when I was younger. It was a pretty popular series among my school peers, but at that time my reading tastes were pretty different from my peers. Perhaps I'll check out the series someday.

This ink is a pinkish red with some gold sheen coming through around heavier applications of the ink. This shade kind of looks similar to Diamine Carousel, funnily. I mentioned above that the red is not really for me, and so it is with Anne of Green Gables. Perhaps diluted with a water wash its colors might separate into an interesting mix that could be useful for sunset paintings.

Thanks for reading. If you like what I write and want to support me, you can buy me a coffee...or tea! I'd appreciate it.
