Inkvent 2025 - Day 24

Merry Christmas Eve to those who celebrate! Colorvent ends today and somewhat redeems itself from the last couple inks that didn't really appeal to me. Diamine continues with their pigment inks in a color I can get behind, finally.

Swatches

Colorverse

Looks like Colorverse took a cue from Diamine for this last ink, Winter Wonderland, because it's a shimmer/glistening ink, and it's teal. 😜 It reminds me of Diamine Aurora Borealis or Sailor Shikiori Yamadori. The shimmer looked dense when I swatched, which made the base color a little more appealing and festive. But I'm pretty tealed out for this season (and maybe forever?). Teal is not a preferred color, so while I appreciated that Colorverse didn't continue the pattern of really dark inks from the last couple days and added some nice shimmer, I couldn't fully get behind it. Sorry!

Diamine

Antler is a pigment ink. Again, the shiny label viewed in late night indoor lighting somewhat threw my expectations off, because I thought it was going to be a purplish-brown ink. Antler goes on wet a more reddish-brown then dries to a somewhat cooler brown. I'm not sure if pigment inks show shading in regular writing; the swatch label doesn't seem to. So that might make this ink a little less appealing to me (I prefer to see shading or other attributes that differentiate fountain pen ink from marker or fineliner ink).

I did observe that this ink didn't clean off my Kakimori glass nib as easily as the other more recent pigment inks. The nib was tinted transparent brown after I rinsed it, and remained slightly tinted even after using some Dawn dish soap. But after I swatched another ink and cleaned off the glass nib, the brown tint was gone. So if I do use this ink for journaling, maybe I'll only use a dip pen, since I tend to leave inks in currently inked pens for quite a long time.

Overall Colorvent had some pretty interesting inks, but the last several weren't really to my liking. To overcome recency bias, I'll go back over the whole set and figure out how many were yays vs. nays. Diamine has one day left, but given historical patterns, because this year's set is Diamine Teal, the last ink is going to be a kind of teal, so... :sigh: If memory serves, the last inks have also been really dark, almost black ones with multiple stacked attributes (like sheen, shimmer, and something else, sometimes), so my expectations are low. 😝

How do you all feel about this year's Colorvent? Any guesses about tomorrow's Diamine ink? Let's talk here, on Mastodon, or Bluesky.
