Inkvent 2025 - Day 16

Nice inks from both sets today: a sneaky chromoshader from Colorvent, and a pretty version of a color I don't usually hew towards.

My scan for this ink might not be entirely accurate, because I think more gray is showing in real life. But Polar Night is a "sneaky" chromoshader of gray, purple, blue, and pink tones. When I first swatch it, it looks like a pretty light, watery, almost dirty gray. But as it dried, the secondary tones came out. It's very pretty, but also very light, so I don't know how well it'll actually work as a writing ink. Perhaps one could add a tiny drop of a gray or purple ink to darken it a bit for writing.

Diamine

I am not the biggest fan of red inks. They have to be a specific red that doesn't remind me of blood (😝), and luckily Ruby Taffeta falls into this category.

The base is a very Christmas-y saturated red with a little bit of golden sheen, as you can better see in the non-shimmer swatch. It has a chameleon shimmer which I mainly saw as a bright, light green. I couldn't get the right angle to see the other color, which might be pink/red, or might be gold. Who knows? Because the shimmer can look pretty strongly light green, it can overwhelm the base red, which I don't prefer, but in a finer nib the base might shine through okay.

Spiced Apple from the first Diamine Inkvent I bought 3 (?) years ago was kind of like this, but its gold sheen completely obliterated the darker, candy apple red base, which I didn't like at all. I think a couple people mentioned this base red looks close to Diamine Red Dragon, which funnily enough, was one of the first bottled inks I bought at the start of my fountain pen journey, because I wanted to match the red Platinum Preppy Wa I bought. 😅

Today's inks are on opposite ends of the spectrum in color, saturation, and attributes, but both are appealing to me in different ways. How do you all feel about today's inks? Chat here, on Mastodon, or Bluesky.
