Inkvent 2025 - Day 1

I just finished swatching my 3 inks for today. As you might remember, I have 3 different ink Advent calendars going (🤦‍♀️) – Diamine Inkvent Teal (25 days), Colorverse Colorvent 2025 samples (24 days), and a "Slackvent" sample ink swap (12 days). I was thinking that to help lessen the hectic feeling of posting every day (this is supposed to be a fun, chill activity after all), I would post weekly recaps. I'm still trying to decide post frequency, but at least for day 1, I thought I'd upload some quick scans. I won't really get into comparisons this time, but I'll maybe do an abridged set of comparisons in the weekly/multi-day recaps.

Anyway, here are day 1's inks:

At first I thought Martian Dust and Hound of the Baskervilles were more similar (they look similarly dark bloodish red in the vials), but obviously Martian Dust is an appropriate brown-red for its namesake, and Hound of the Baskervilles is more of a maroon or wine red. Celestial Skies is a dark blue-leaning teal with golden shimmer and some red sheen.

Swatching Process

I've printed out calendar grids on A4 Tomoe River S paper, as I mentioned in a previous post, and I decided to use my Sailor Hocoro brush nib for coloring in the rectangles, and Kakimori glass nib for writing the day number and ink names.

3 A4 sheets of paper with a 5x5 grid of rectangles in a calendar-type layout, the first rectangles of each sheet filled in with ink swatches
White 3D-printed pen tray with a brush nib in a clear pen body (top), and a glass nib in a short, gray nib holder (bottom)
Sailor Hocoro with brush nib (top), Kakimori glass nib and mini-holder (bottom)

I'm not that precise with the brush nib, but it's good for being able to see the base color and what it looks like with heavier application compared to using the folded nib I've employed in the past, which can have too heavy an application. The brush nib doesn't seem to need that much ink saturation to fill in these rectangles, so that's nice. It cleans out pretty well under running water, too.

Fun start to the ink-vent season! 🥳 ✒️ ✨
