Ink Swatch Wednesday: The Wet Pen Diablo Lake and Western Trillium
As I promised in last week's Ink Swatch Wednesday post, I am highlighting the other two inks I bought from The Wet Pen, the two that were considered somewhat limited release and not really talked about in the video about the new inks. They are a cool, blue-green called Diablo Lake, and a berry shade similar to last week's Blackberry, called Western Trillium.
Diablo Lake is a blue-green or teal color leaning bluer, perhaps having some gray tones which push it towards the cooler end of the spectrum. For other inks I previously looked at on these papers, they generally looked cooler-toned on Iroful compared to Tomoe River, but this shade is already trending cool enough that there doesn't appear to be much difference in temperature across the papers, just level of translucency.
Looking at my ink swatch library, the other teals I have are more green than Diablo Lake, but Jacques Herbin Vert de Gris looks like a close match.
Even Matthew from The Wet Pen said that Western Trillium looks like a lighter version of Blackberry, but he mentioned that they don't share the same dyes, which was interesting. Regardless, I do feel like it's a lighter, perhaps more translucent version of Blackberry. Therefore, besides Blackberry as a possible alternate, Herbin's Poussière de Lune, which was a sort of dupe for Blackberry, fits here also.
I also thought that Tranquility from Diamine Inkvent 2023 had a similar berry-magenta shade, but these scans appear lighter and more purple-y magenta than Western Trillium.
Between the bottles of Blackberry and Western Trillium (and Poussière de Lune), I'm pretty full-up on darker berry inks now. But of course, I'm always open to other suggestions for this shade of ink, and for inks that look like Diablo Lake. I mean, if my brown ink collection is any indication, it's clear that I'm not a one-ink-per color kind of person! 😅 #InkAddict
