Ink Swatch Wednesday: KWZ Brown Pink
I'm back this week with an ink sample that I bought last month, KWZ Brown Pink. Ever since I got into KWZ Honey and Smells Like Coffee, I have been happy to check out more inks from KWZ. It doesn't hurt that their inks are lightly scented vanilla, due to the additive they use for fungicide. I guess YMMV on the smell; I like it, but I've seen others are put off by it, something to consider if you are interested in sampling this ink.
The ink looks kind of true to its name, though I guess it leans burgundy instead a straight pinkish-brown or brownish-pink. Funnily enough, I think it looks like the color that I was expecting Pilot Iroshizuku Syun-Gyo to have. On Tomoe River, Syun-Gyo looks browner and duller than KWZ Brown Pink.
A couple other inks in my collection are pretty close to the rosy end of the color family – Private Reserve Arabian Rose and The Wet Pen Blackberry:
Arabian Rose looks like it might have some faint brown tones in it, since it appears a little closer to Brown Pink than Blackberry does.
Robert Oster's Burgundy Chocolate Notes, is another similar ink with its own oddities.
In this swatch, it looks more straightforwardly a brownish-burgundy, but in different lighting and from different pens, there are pink and purple undertones that make the ink a bit mercurial, which is why I like it so much. At least comparing swatches here, Brown Pink is more pinky/rosy than Burgundy Chocolate Notes.
Here's a quick writing sample with KWZ Brown Pink in my Pilot Custom 742 with FA nib:
The ink flows pretty nicely, although I still am seeing some periodic skipping when I write with the 742. That's not the ink's fault, rather I think I'm running into the issue where the stock feed doesn't flow as consistently to the very flexy FA nib. I hope that getting an upgraded feed will help, but that's a story for another time.
I like the burgundy-brown color of this ink and may end up buying a bottle of it, even though KWZ bottles are so big that it'll be challenging for me, an ink wanderer, to finish.
