Fountain Pen Quickie: Spring Ink Palette

Quick post here to talk about these two latest pens that I filled a couple days ago. The Lamy 2000 had Diamine Ancient Copper in it, but I no longer felt it was seasonally appropriate, so I cleaned it out and refilled with Herbin Cacao du Brésil because I wanted to see it from the 2000's M architect nib.

The Franklin-Christoph p20 was actually cleaned and put away, but I was reminded of the kodachi nib (a curved architect nib grind by Mike Chen which I purchased before the current Vanness price) I have in it. There was a discussion thread and someone mentioned they didn't take to it because it wrote too broadly. Someone else confirmed it was ground from a BB nib. I replied saying that I felt mixed about it because it wrote more wet and broad than I preferred with my small writing. But I thought I'd try it again with a drier ink to see if it would help. I ended up filling it with Troublemaker Petrichor.

As you can see, the kodachi nib can have different line widths as you change the writing angle. For me, my regular angle is maybe 50-60 degrees? And even then, the line width is kinda broad. And the higher you hold the nib, the thinner the angle, but it feels really sharp on the page. If I don't end up selling this nib, I'd like to have it ground to be less broad overall, and smoother even at higher angles, and in reverse (it's bloody scratchy in reverse, it's painful).

The ink colors aren't exactly spring pastel, but they are in the pastel-ish family. I really like the lighter brown (or dark beige?) of the Herbin, and the greenish undertones of the Petrichor ink (though it has already gotten darker sitting a couple days in the p20. Its seal is not the best since it's a friction fit cap.

Any similar ink recommendations to the Herbin or Troublemaker? Hit me up below or on Mastodon/Bluesky.

Thanks for reading. If you like what I write and want to support me, you can buy me a coffee...or ink sample! 🙂 I'd appreciate it.
