Diamine Inkvent Days 12 - 18

7 fountain pen ink swatches arranged with 4 in top row, 3 in bottom row: Snow Globe (Day 12), Lullabye, Mint Twist, Sleigh Ride, Tundra, Winterberry, and Vibe
All swatched on Tomoe River Sanzen 52gsm paper

Another week, another 7 days of Inkvent has passed by. Really getting close to Christmas now... 😯

Out of this week's batch, Snow Globe, Lullabye, and Winterberry are the least interesting to me. They're all very nice colors, with Lullabye being the standout with its pale pink/lilac shade. Snow Globe is a blue-purple chromoshader with chameleon shimmer that appears generally light blue...not that surprising of a combo. Winterberry is a vivid pink-red with a rose-gold shimmer that is not really one of my preferred colors. They're all fine inks, but I'm more interested in the remaining four.

Mint Twist is a minty green with a chameleon shimmer that is green (or blue-green?) or bronze, depending on the viewing angle. When I first pulled out the bottle and saw the shimmer at the bottom of the bottle, it was very easy to see the green and brown colors, which fit the mint chocolate theme so well, a joyful detail for me, a mint chocolate fan. 🙂 In practice you won't really see the brown/bronze shimmer color in regular writing, but I know it's there. 🙂 Too bad they didn't add a scent to really round out the mint theme!

Tundra is an intriguing brown- or beige-gray that has similar vibes to Pilot Iroshizuku Kiri-Same's chromoshading, but Kiri-Same has more blue (it looks like it has some brown tones like Tundra). Tundra kind of falls into the "swampy colors" category for me, a favorite. I suppose if you wanted to be less charitable in describing the color, it is the shade snow gets when it's been plowed to the side and is mixed with dirt and mud from the roads. 😆 I still like it anyway!

And finally, we have two more Extreme Sheen inks – Sleigh Ride and Vibe. Once again, these seem to be sheeners that I can get on board with, meaning the sheen, even though it overwhelms the base color, doesn't make the base color look ugly. 😝 Sleigh Ride's base color, a deep red/orange/brown, reminds me of a browner Fireside Snug from last year's Inkvent. Then a super-strong, bright green sheen comes in, but somehow it doesn't yuck up the rusty-brown base. I can still see the base color when looking at my writing straight on. Wherever I might notice the green sheen, the base color looks darker, but its shade isn't transformed. When you look at it at an angle to make the green sheen more apparent, it's a fun surprise.

When I saw Vibe is a blue ink, I guessed that the sheen would be red, since most of the time that's the sheen that blue inks get (I'll have to look into the chemistry of sheening inks to understand better why certain ink colors seem to always have a specific sheen associated with them). The base color is lovely, a very dark blue-black that reminds me of a darkly saturated Iroshizuku Tsuki-Yo. And the metallic red (or maybe it's more appropriate to call it magenta) sheen, pops on top of the base color, sometimes appearing to merge into a purplish shade. Diamine has a lot of blue inks with red sheen, so it wouldn't surprise me if Vibe looks very similar to those, but I haven't had much experience with inks like the popular Polar Glow, so I'm not sure how they compare.

I'm pretty surprised at how many Extreme Sheen inks (3) we've gotten so far. Last year when they introduced Star Bright as a new ink type, we only got one example. This year we've had a couple Star Bright inks, but 3/4 of the way through the set, we've already had 3 Extreme Sheen inks. I'm guessing we'll have at least one more; they seem to like the concept. BTW, Cranberry, even though it wasn't labeled an Extreme Sheen, seemed like one, to me. But with that sheener, I really didn't like how the sheen ruined the base color, so maybe that's where they draw the line. 😆

What do you all think about this set of Inkvent inks? How do you feel about the new Extreme Sheen inks, yea or nay? Any predictions on what the last 7 inks will be? Let's chat about it here, or you can catch me on Mastodon or Bluesky. ✌️
